Master Class with Sigung Malia Bernal

Join us this Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 9AM at DJ’s Martial Arts & Fitness for a dynamic master class by Sigung Malia Bernal. Sigung Malia is the First Woman to have graced a Black Belt Magazine Cover. She is a 3-time winner of the Golden Fist Award, and is a member of the Kajukenbo Black Belt Hall of Fame. She has a 7th degree Black and Red Belt in Kajukenbo, and a 7th degree Black Sash in Wun Hop Kuen Do. Her Forms Master Class last year was a real treat that showed both her strength and beauty in the art. This is definitely a “not to be missed event.”

The class begins promptly at 9AM, and the cost is $25 payable to DJ’s Martial Arts & Fitness. See you there!

*We’re very proud to announce that Doug Jones was promoted to Sigung and 6th degree black belt, and Damond Troupe to Sifu and 3rd degree black belt. Their new titles and ranks were presented at the awards dinner on Friday, July 18th. What a momentous occasion!

Finally, in addition to attending the KOA Championships as a school and family, we were able to see the Kajukenbo Grand Masters and meet other members from the Kajukenbo and general martial arts communities.  It was a great experience, and we look forward to going to Vegas next year.

BASKA and Delta Smackdown

Tournament season for 2008 has begun! At the Baska tournament on January 26, Shawntell de Ramus took first in her division. More recently, Sifu Doug Jones, Sihing Damond Troupe, Sibak Sinclair Savage, and Shawntell all fought at the Delta Smackdown in Brentwood on February 16. Those of us in the stands were excited to see the entire Wrecking Krew at work!

We’re planning to put up some recent footage on our blog, but in the meantime, here’s some we found on YouTube. Look for the green and yellow uniforms: the first fighter is Sibak, the second Sihing.

Watch out for those kicks…

The next Baska event is March 1st. For a complete schedule, please visit www.baskaonline.com.
